Dallas Attorney for Child Sexual Abuse Victims

Attorney Tahira Khan Merritt has practiced law for almost two decades. She received her undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her law degree in November 1988 from Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas, which is nationally recognized for its trial advocacy program.

During her career, Ms. Merritt has worked for prominent law firms in Dallas, as well as serving as an assistant attorney general for the State of Texas. As a trial lawyer, she has tried to verdict well over 20 cases, including assisting in achieving the largest jury award ever given in a clergy sexual abuse case, John Doe I et. alia vs. Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas and Rudolph Kos.

To take on an organization as powerful and secretive as the church, you need an attorney who is aggressive and knows the ins and outs of the particular organization. Whether it is a Catholic, or Greek Orthodox,  Protestant church or school, Ms. Merritt knows the complexities involved in securing the rights of child sexual abuse victims and helping to put their perpetrators behind bars.

Since 1992, Tahira Khan Merritt has dedicated her law practice to the very challenging area of law that addresses institutional negligence involving sexual abuse of children. She also continually serves as a court-appointed guardian Ad Litem for injured children in Dallas County, which, as a parent, she finds especially fulfilling.

Ms. Merritt is a member in good standing of the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association, Dallas Women Lawyers Association, Dallas Asian-American Bar, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the National Crime Victims Bar Association.
